Knitted Kalevala
What does knitted folk poetry look like? In Knitted Kalevala, Jenna Kostet explores how mythology, symbolism and tradition can be translated into wearable knitwear inspired by the Kalevala, Finland’s national epic.
The collection includes 18 knitting patterns — sweaters, cardigans and accessories — featuring decorative colourwork motifs influenced by Baltic-Finnic mythology, nature and ancient symbolism. Finnish, Karelian, Scandinavian and Baltic design traditions are reflected throughout the collection, offering a distinctive alternative to more familiar Nordic colourwork styles.
All garments are worked seamlessly in one piece and the colourwork uses only two colours at a time, making the patterns accessible to a wide range of knitters. The designs also accommodate a variety of yarn weights with suggested alternatives.
An inspiring collection for knitters who appreciate meaningful colourwork rooted in tradition and storytelling.
