Kindred knits
In Kindred Knits: Patterns from My Estonian Family Archives, Aleks Byrd draws inspiration from the sketchbooks of her Estonian grandmother Hilja and generations of family heirloom crafts. The result is a deeply personal collection where tradition and contemporary knitwear meet.
The book includes 15 patterns ranging from socks and hats to sweaters and cardigans, worked in a variety of techniques such as lace, cables and colourwork. It also highlights Roosimine, a traditional Estonian inlay method that adds distinctive decorative detail to knitwear.
The designs feel both innovative and rooted in heritage — a tribute to earlier generations and their shared love of making.
An inspiring collection for knitters who appreciate meaningful design, traditional techniques and knitwear with a strong sense of story.
